Support during a TB breakdown

A TB breakdown affects every part of a farm business — from herd management to family wellbeing.

Your TB Champion provides structured support throughout.

Practical support

We help farmers:

  • understand testing requirements

  • navigate movement restrictions

  • interpret APHA processes

  • explore Approved Finishing Unit pathways

  • manage herd planning decisions

  • access TBAS advice and resources

Emotional support

TB breakdowns can be isolating and stressful.

Champions are trained in Mental Health First Aid and can:

  • recognise early signs of distress

  • offer peer support

  • signpost confidential specialist therapy

  • help families stay resilient during uncertainty

Coordination support

With farmer consent, Champions can:

  • liaise with APHA

  • support communication with veterinary teams

  • help organise next steps

  • ensure everyone involved is aligned

This reduces confusion and improves confidence in decision-making.

Community workshops

We also deliver local workshops for cattle keepers - including Officially TB Free farms - helping improve awareness, biosecurity and proactive engagement.
